Shine Lu was born in Paungde near Pyay in 1959. He studied at the State School of Fine Arts, Yangon 1982. He has been exhibiting since 1987 and has participated in over 60 group shows. An awarded artist, Shine Lu is well recognized by his peers as an innovative and versatile painter. He won a first prize from State and Division of Myanmar Award for W/C painting in 1996 and a second prize from Art Award of Myanmar International Olympic Committee for oil painting in 1999. He was one of the 28 finalist artists of Asian Myanmar Art Award in 2002 and of Myanmar Contemporary Art Award in 2004. Internationally his work has been shown in Singapore, Hong Kong, Switzerland, Australia and US and New Zealand. His “Dozen Expressions” solo exhibition at Nawaday Tharlar in 2016 was one of his most impressive ones in the art community. He is currently working on a new series of portraits of the leaders who he really admires from different background: poet, writer, painter, singer, politician and religious leaders. He is going to participate in the exhibition “Pictures of Transition”, Contemporary Paintings from Myanmar at the Australian National University on 1-15 March 2019. His collection can be seen at the Nawaday Tharlar Gallery in Yangon.
