Hla Htay He was born in 1961 in Paungde, Bago Division. His father was a famous commercial artist in that region. He learnt a lot from his father by helping him. He has been in love with painting and sculptures since he was a child. He stopped going to the school when he was at the 8th grade as he believed he can live life with art if he knows how to create art looking at his father’s great success. At his 8th grade, he already did a lot of paintings, sculptures by working together with him in Paungde. He earned his living as a commercial artist in Paungde like his father until 2014. His father passed away in 2007. He moved to Yangon in 2014 as he believes he will have more opportunities to show his work to public in Yangon. People love his work because of his different techniques, beautiful colours and skills for re-creating traditional subjects with his own style. He had his first solo sculpture show at Nawaday Tharlar Gallery in 2018. His works have been shown locally and internationally: Germany and US. His collection can be seen at Nawaday Tharlar Gallery in Yangon. He lives in Yangon with his family and continues creating arts.
