Zin Zaw (b. 1988, Yangon, Myanmar)

A self-taught artist, Zin Zaw began her creative path behind the lens, working as an assistant photographer at her sister’s studio from 2006 to 2014. What began as a fascination with light and framing gradually unfolded into a search for inner expression. Between 2017 and 2019, under the name KiKi, she created small watercolor illustrations — tender, delicate moments that hinted at her quiet sensitivity.

In 2023, she found her true voice in acrylic painting. Through sweeping strokes and vivid color contrasts, Zin Zaw paints not what is seen, but what is felt. Her figures, often distorted yet deeply human, carry the weight of unspoken emotions — solitude, tenderness, and resilience. Each face she paints seems to hold a story suspended between sorrow and calm, echoing the fragility and beauty of being alive.

Her debut as ZINZAW at Nawaday Tharlar Gallery in 2025 marked more than a beginning — it was the unveiling of a painter who dares to translate feeling into form, and silence into color.
