Aung Zaw was born in Yangon, Myanmar in 1979. He is a self-taught artist and only one of a few artists who create sex clusively abstract art. He admires Kin Maung Yin and Soe Naing who have been creating abstract paintings for many years. Although he is inspired by these two artists he has his own unique style.Since he started painting from 2008 until 2013, he signed as Min Htet Aung, the name of his son, who Aung Zaw wants to be an artist when he grows older. Aung Zaw started to sign his own name in 2014 when he realized no one can force anyone to be an artist. Whoever wants to be an artist will always find a way by himself. He has already done four solo exhibitions and participated in more than twenty groups show. “I believe art is the light in the dark world” said Aung Zaw. He is now living and working in Yangon. Cheimt = AungCheimt
AungChiemt, who is a great very modern poet, was born in 1948 in Yangon. He is one of vanguards of the revolutionary poets who took Burmese poetry from the traditional to the modern. He started writing on hand-writing postcard of memorial occasion in 1965. He was sent to Inseinprison in 1965 as he got involved into political movement. He was one of leading poets for “revolutionary poets”. They believe politics and poetry could not to be separated. In 1968 about one hundred poets were arrested by Ne Win military regime because of this revolution. It was known then as the Spring Suppression. The arrests were “to stop the Underground Poets” because they stand on people’s side. But AungCheimt was lucky this time as he was not arrested.”Myselfand poetry cannot be separated. Writing poetry is my life” said AungCheimt. He wrote poems at “Moe Wai” magazine and other magazines and became the key poet at “Moe Wai” in 1971-1972. His one of most popular poetry book “Classical Ma Ma” was published in 1974. He is a full-time poet and his poems have been published in many magazines since 1970. He is one the only poets able to make living from his poetry through selling to numerous books and sales of his own numerous books of poetry. He has published over twenty books and now writing more and more. This Cheimt and Chan’s Text and Visual Collaboration is second time by Aung Cheimt and Chan Aye. Chan = Chan Aye
Chan Aye was born in 1954 in Mandalay. He is a self-taughtartist and got influenced by Pagyi Aung Soe, U Paw Oo Thett, U than Aung (Sculptor). He is a prominent artist and has been working as illustrator, painter, and sculptor and installation artist. He also writes articles on arts. He had taken the leading of modern exhibition called Rectangular Lantern, Early Myanmar Modern Art Shows in country wide since 1985.
He started making holes on canvas in 2004 which is a Buddhist metaphor for piercing the inner being or inner self. He did artist residency in Vietnam in 2009 and had a talk at Artino Gallery in Vietnam about this concept of making hole and how it relates to Myanmar Culture and Religion.
He also did a solo project on sculpture installation and exhibited at Palais de Tokyo Museum in Paris from Dec 2014 to to June 2015.
He was awarded at Philip Morris Group of Companies Myanmar Art Awards 2001/2002 and the 2004 Sovereign Annual Contemporary Asia ArtPrize. His work has been shown in more than 40 exhibits locally and in more than 20 exhibits internationally in Singapore, Germany, Finland, France, Hong Kong, India, Thailand, China, USA (New York) and UK (London).France, Korea and Japan. This Cheimt and Chan’s Text and Visual Collaboration is second time by Aung Cheimt and Chan Aye. This collection can be seen at Nawaday Tharlar Gallery in Yangon.
